Leasel Leon Thomas, 82, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014, at his home in Moundville, Mo., following an illness of several months. Leon was born Dec. 13, 1931, in Moundville, to "L.B." Thomas and Glessner Ellois (Martin) Thomas. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Mae Woody on Sept. 27, 1953, at the Moundville Methodist Church, and she survives of the home.

Leon was raised in Moundville and attended school in Bronaugh, Mo., where he graduated from Bronaugh High School Class of 1949. After high school he worked as a meat cutter in Kansas City for 10 years before returning to Moundville in 1960 to farm. During his life he also did carpentry work for a number of years and worked for the United States Postal Service, delivering mail in the Moundville and Deerfield areas for 20 years before retiring in 1995.

Leon was a member of NARFE -- National Active and Retired Federal Employees and was past vice president of their local chapter. He was also a member of the Moundville Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, Marilyn, Leon is survived by three daughters, Sharon McGinnis and her husband, Paul, Plano, Texas, Linda Douglas and her husband, Don, Nevada, and Nancy Wallace and her husband, David, Nevada; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Colin Thomas and his wife, Betsy, Coats, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jack Thomas and Gary Thomas; and one sister, Sue Mooneyhan.

A committal service will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, March, 24, at the Welborn Cemetery, Moundville, with the Rev. Kay Zimmer officiating.

Memorials are suggested to the Moundville Methodist Church or the Welborn Cemetery in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
