Wayne Rinehart Foland

Wayne R. Foland, 87, formerly of Nevada, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014, in Kansas City, Mo. He was born to J. Elbert and Lois (Rinehart) Foland on Jan. 18, 1927, north of Nevada. Wayne met the love of his life, Doris E. Wasserman, while in the Army, they were married in 1952 and went on to celebrate 53 years of marriage.

Wayne attended school in Nevada, having perfect attendance for grades 1-12. He lettered in track, football, basketball and was senior class president, graduating Class of 1945. He then went on to the University of Missouri and graduated from the school of engineering in 1950, and also lettering in track while at MU. After joining the army, Wayne was a 1st Lieutenant stationed at Fort Monmouth, N.J., then at Fort Devens, Mass., from 1950-55. He worked as an engineer for 25 years and then owned and operated a Dairy Queen at 85th and Wornall in Kansas City for 25 years.

Wayne enjoyed golf, range shooting, bowling and he loved to duck and goose hunt with his son, Stuart, and his brother, Gene.

Survivors include his son, Stuart Wayne Foland and his wife, Mary, of Overland Park, Kan.; grandson, Brian Foland and his wife, Sara; granddaughter, Rachel Dziadosz and her husband, Clint; great-grandsons, Zachary Foland and Archer Rinehart Dziadosz; and great-granddaughters, Sawyer Dziadosz and Lexi Foland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Foland; his parents; and two brothers, Jay Foland and Gene Foland.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, April 10, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada. Interment with military honors will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Family will receive friends from 11 to 11:30 a.m., at the funeral home, Thursday, prior to the service.

Contributions may be made in his memory to the Kansas City Hospice House in care of Ferry Funeral Home, 301 S. Washington, Nevada.
