Middle school track competes at Tri-County meet

NEOSHO, Mo. -- The Nevada Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade boys' and girls' track teams completed the 2014 season Wednesday, competing in the Tri-County Conference meet, at Neosho Middle School.

The seventh-grade girls and eighth-grade boys turned in the best team performances for Nevada on the day, as they each came home third, overall. Nevada's eighth-grade girls and seventh-grade boys each finished fifth in the team standings.

Webb City won the eighth-grade girls' and boys' team titles, while Neosho took the seventh-grade girls' and boys' championships.

Nevada finished the day with first place medals in the seventh-grade girls' 4x100-meter relay, as well as similar showings by Adrian Bond in the seventh-grade girls' long jump and Zach Gardner in the eighth-grade boys' long jump and triple jump. Sammie Gundy took second in the eighth-grade girls' long and triple jumps, while Hailey Jackson, Kaeth Zachary and Gardner echoed that success in the seventh-grade girls' high jump and triple jump, and the eighth-grade boys' 100-meter dash, respectively.

Nevada's eighth-grade boys' 4x100 relay team also finished second.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers got individual third-place finishes from Zachary in the seventh-grade girls' 200-meter dash, Bond in the seventh-grade girls' 100, Hunter Mason in the eighth-grade boys' 400-meter dash and Grant Phebus in the seventh-grade boys' high jump. Nevada's seventh-grade girls' 4x200 relay team also took third on the day.

Nevada's eighth-grade girls' 4x200, seventh-grade girls' 4x400, and seventh-grade boys' 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams all finished fourth. That success was mirrored by Alaina Morgan in the eighth-grade girls' high jump, Sarah Creasy in the eighth-grade girls' pole vault, Charlene Pettibon in the seventh-grade girls' 400, Shelby Trotter in the eighth-grade boys' triple jump, Mason in the eighth-grade boys' long jump, Braxton Shadden in the eighth-grade boys' 200, Phebus in the seventh-grade boys' triple jump and Tanner Gotschall in the seventh-grade boys' 75-meter hurdles.

The eighth-grade girls 4x100 and eighth-grade boys' 4x200 relay teams finished fifth. Caylee Crews took fifth in the eighth-grade girls' high jump and 100, as did Haiden Richmond in the eighth-grade girls' 200, Jackson in the seventh-grade girls' long jump, Maya Feezell in the seventh-grade girls' discus, Hailee Richter in the seventh-grade girls' 400, Ben Satterfield in the eighth-grade boys' high jump, Shadden in the eighth-grade boys' triple jump and Caleb Theis in the seventh-grade boys' pole vault.
