The Sheriff's Office is working an investigation of two cars that were reported as stolen from the Schell City area Thursday morning. According to a press release from the Vernon County Sheriff's Office, both cars were stolen from the same residence sometime during the early morning hours Thursday.

One of the stolen vehicles was found wrecked in a ditch on M Highway later that morning. Sheriff Jason Mosher said deputies entered the vehicles as stolen and had a "be on the look out" alert put out on the second vehicle (a black CTS) that was still missing.

Deputies began working with Western Missouri 911 to track the vehicles OnStar system and tracked the vehicle to Kansas City. Dispatch continued to give KCPD updates of the vehicles location in Kansas City until it was found.

One person was taken into custody by KCPD Officers. Sheriff Mosher said his office is working with investigators from Kansas City and that he expects charges from Vernon County to be filed soon as well.

The name of the person arrested in Kansas City has not been released pending the filing of formal charges.
