Summer is underway, which brings many opportunities within the Parks and Recreation Department.

You may or may not know the new Pulse playground equipment has been installed at Walton Park and seems to be getting much use. While it is operational, it is a work in progress.

We will be forming an ADA compliant path and are currently looking for options to replace the surface material with a poured in rubberized material. As with all things, completion will come in stages.

The pool is also open and off to a great start. We are open the same hours as in years past; Monday through Saturday from 1 to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.

This year, in response to public feedback, we will be offering lap swimming from 5:30 to 7 p.m. through June. If response is good, we will continue that throughout the summer.

Swim lessons are scheduled with this year's session running July 8 through the 18. Registration can be made at the Aquatic Center. We will also be making an announcement regarding aquatic classes soon.

The youth baseball program is off to a great start. Anyone looking for some good fun should go out and encourage our little sluggers. All of the kids appear to be having a great time and have improved so much over the last couple of weeks.

For those who prefer to participate rather than spectate, registrations for an adult softball league are underway. The S.N.A.G. golf program is almost ready to advertise and we have plenty going on at the community center.

To round out the summer, we are once again planning the Nevada Triathlon. Early registration can be made at the community center.

Whatever happened to the days when we said, "there's nothing to do?" There is plenty available. One just has to get out and find it.
