Jerry D. "Squint" Porter, 74, of Fordland, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014, surrounded by family.

He was born Jan. 17, 1940, in Rogersville, Mo., the son of the late Leo and Wilma (Brown) Porter. He was united in marriage to Janice Brooks. She preceded him in death in 2003. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leo "Junior" and Herbert Lee Porter; a brother-in-law, Jim Sharpe; and father and mother-in-law, Coy and Alline Brooks.

Squint served three years in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. He worked as a truck driver for Frisco Transportation Co. and was a proud member of Teamsters Union Local 245. He later retired from MFA, in Rogersville, where he enjoyed visiting with local patrons. He was a member of Henderson Masonic Lodge No. 477.

Dad had 40 years of fun with our mom, Janice, before she passed away. They played cards on many Saturday nights with good friends through the years and never missed a ballgame that any of us kids played in. Later they enjoyed traveling and playing slots at the casinos. He loved music and played the guitar at many jam sessions with local musicians. Later in life he learned to dance and enjoyed demonstrating his new found talent on the road as he moved to Wheatland and later to Nevada, Mo. He wasn't afraid to show off his skills anywhere there was good music and good company.

Dad, we will miss your smile, sense of humor and words of wisdom, but mostly your love. Have fun in Heaven!

He is survived by his daughter, Pam and Dan Hintz, of Fordland; four sons, Terry and Michelle, of Ozark, Tim of Rockaway Beach, Mike and Diana, of Fordland, and Greg and Jennifer, of Fair Grove; two brothers, Donnie and Cathy, of Hermitage, and Larry and Linda, of Rogersville; two sisters, JoAnn Sharpe, of Baldwin, and Linda Hampton, of Fordland; two sisters-in-law, Nelda, of Clarendon Hills, Ill., and Donna, of Springfield; 16 grandkids; one great-grandson; his special friend for the past nine years, Lois Tyer, of Nevada; and too many other friends and family to name.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 14, in J.D. Lee and Sons Funeral Home, Rogersville, Mo. Burial will follow in White Oak Cemetery, Rogersville.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., with Masonic services at 7 p.m., Friday, June 13, in the funeral home.

The family request memorial contributions to Hospice Compassus, of Springfield, or NRMA Hospice, of Nevada.
