Shirley Gene Murray, 83, Nevada, Mo., passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Christian Health Care, in Nevada. Gene was born March 2, 1931, in Coffeyville, Kan., and was raised by her mother, Mildred G. Noble. She was united in marriage to Charles Leroy Murray on Jan. 21, 1951, in Rich Hill, Mo., and he preceded her in death on May 1, 2007.

Gene grew up living in Kansas, Iowa, and Missouri, before graduating from Shawnee Mission High School Class of 1949. She made Richards her permanent home where she worked as the Relief Postmaster. Gene was active for many years in the LDS Church, serving as Relief Social President for several years and many other leadership positions. Gene had resided in Richards since 1951.

Survivors include one son, Charles Edmond "Ed" Murray and his wife, Rebecca, Nevada; one daughter, Mary Anna Blake and her husband, Ralph "Doc", Richards; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Clement Barber and his wife, Georgiana, Blackfoot, Idaho, Calvin Barber, Springfield, Mo., and Clifford Barber, Grandview, Mo.; two sisters, Monya Cantwell and her husband, Jerry, Rich Hill, and Sonya Foskett, Independence; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Marilyn Bigler; and one son, Roger Lee Murray.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 2, at the LDS Church, in Nevada. Interment will follow in the Richland Cemetery, Richards, Mo. Family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Ferry Funeral Home.
