Randolph "Randy" Newton Hardy, 59, Sheldon, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at Via Christy Hospital, in Pittsburg, Kan., following a lengthy battle with lung cancer. He was born Dec. 10, 1954, in Fort Scott, Kan., to Harry Joe Hardy and Jacquelyn Stites Hardy.

Randy graduated from Sheldon High School in 1973. He partnered with his father in farming and raising cattle at the family farm in Sheldon.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Joe Hardy. Survivors include a son, Michael Keith Hardy, Joplin, Mo.; his mother, Jacquelyn Stites Hardy, Sheldon, Mo.; one grandchild, Alexandria Eves Hardy, Beaumont, Texas; a sister, Joy Halseth, Joplin, Mo.; and a brother, Mark Hardy, Sheldon, Mo. Other survivors include three nephews, Yancy McKnight (wife, Lynn), Ames, Iowa, Chance Halseth, Joplin, Mo., and Austin Hardy (Brittany), Lockwood, Mo.; and great-nieces and -nephews, Mollie Jain Halseth, Raymore, Mo., Brody and Brock McKnight, Ames, Iowa, Cheryl and Gabby Danner, and Aaron Hardy, Lockwood, Mo.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 8, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada. A private burial will be conducted at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Vernon County Cancer Relief in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
