Bouncing back from a three-game losing streak, the Nevada Griffons upended front-running Sedalia Monday night, 9-4.

The Griffons exploded for a five-run fifth inning and finished with 10 hits.

Earlier, the Griffons lost to the Joplin Outlaws 8-1, the St. Joseph Mustangs 3-2, and the Outlaws 5-4.

The four-game swing left the Griffons in third in the five-team south division of the MINK League, with a 14-16 overall record.

Sedalia has a 20-10 mark, with Joplin at 21-11. Ozark trails Nevada at 12-19 and Branson follows at 7-22.

Sedalia got a run on an opening triple and a single.

In the third, the Griffons' Jacob Alexander singled and scored but Sedalia evened the game at 3.

They added a run in the sixth behind Kurt Becker.

Sedalia nicked a run in the sixth but got no closer.

Downs led the winners with three hits and three RBI, with Alexander and Midyett adding two each. Becker, Taylor, and Love also collected safeties.

Walker was touched for seven hits while fanning six. He gave way to Jonathan Hennigan, who worked the sixth and part of the seventh, giving up a run on two hits and two walks. Reece Ponak finished. In 2.2 innings of work, he didn't give up a hit or a walk and struck out five.

The Griffons' lone run came in the fourth, with Taylor Love scoring.

The Nevada team punched out nine hits, same as Joplin, but left 11 runners stranded.

Jacob Alexander went 2 for 5, with Cooper Burton, Fretheim, Love, Midyett, Jimmy Spanos and Clint Wallace adding singles and Becker ripping his sixth double of the season.

Mustangs 3, Griffons 2

In a tight pitchers' duel, the Griffons' Addison Russ tossed four innings of shutout ball, only to be touched for three runs in the fifth.

Two of the runs were earned as Russ gave up five hits and walked four.

Chad Worman pitched the last three innings and walked three, but only allowed one hit, as St. Joseph didn't break through again.

The Griffons got a run in the third and one in the seventh but couldn't push across the tying score despite another solid night hitting the ball.

Nevada finished with nine hits to St. Joe's six.

Wallace was 3 for 4, and Alexander finished 2 for 4, with Midyett, Becker, Fretheim and Jordan Taylor adding one.

The Griffons left 12 on, as did the Mustangs.

The Outlaws scored first, with a run in the first, but Nevada rallied with two in the second, pushing across two more in the fourth.

But that was the last the Griffons managed, as the Outlaws collected a run in the sixth and then broke through for three in the seventh.

Jared Keating gave up two runs, both earned, over six innings, while allowing just two hits and two walks, fanning four, for the Griffons.

Bryce Davis took the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, in an inning of work in relief.

Love, Downs and Fretheim also hit safely for the Nevada team.

The Griffons were due to host Ozark Tuesday night but were rained out. They return to action Wednesday at Branson, starting a four-game road swing before Branson heads into town for a doubleheader Sunday, with a 6 p.m. start.
