Lester L. Barker, 73, of Cabool, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at his home. He was born on June 12, 1941, in Nevada, Mo., the son of Harry and Wilma (Young) Barker.

Les grew up in Nevada where he attended and graduated from high school. Shortly after graduation he joined the U.S. Marines and proudly served his country in Vietnam. On Feb. 14, 1990, Les was united in marriage to Delores Thurston and made their home in the Kansas City area until moving to Cabool, Mo., in 1994.

Les had been a member of Shriners for many years and was also a very active member in Cabool VFW Post No. 473, where he served a term as commander. He spent many hours providing community service through the VFW and was very active in their Bingo night at the post. He also enjoyed bowling, shooting pool, drag racing, fishing and "his" lottery tickets.

Les was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Wilma Barker. He is survived by his wife, Delores, of the home; children, Justin and Shau-luen Barker, David and Michelle Tanner, Leslie and Jarrod Jones, Michelle and Ron Pellicani and John and Meagan Thurston; grandchildren, Dylan and Mindy Barker, Amanda, Ken and Katie Tanner, Jared Gertz, Sterling Jones, Rebekah Thurston and Nathon Thurston; great-grandson, Leo Tanner; sisters, Nancy and John Driskill and Shirley and Fred Rekhow; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

No services are planned at this time. Mr. Barker was cremated under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home, of Cabool, Mo.
