It's a new team and a new beginning for Cottey College as the school fields a first-year program in cross country.

Austin Bunn is in his first year but his ninth in coaching.

"Getting everything into sync with the group, learning the processes, and getting them all on board in believing in the program and goals," said Bunn of the challenge in putting together the team.

Even so, the coach is optimistic that the first season will be memorable.

"For a first year team, I feel we have some pretty good potential. I would like to believe we would be able to compete with Longview in our region, and other junior colleges that surround us."

The initial squad will be composed of Sarah Kurpjuweit, Chase Burns, Jeanette du Plessis, Kayla Tickler, Ruth Chebet, and Marisa Swartz.

"We have good running backgrounds from the four signed recruits on the team.

"But we only have six runners total so the key to our season is staying healthy."
