After advancing on from the Class 1 District 4 Golf Tournament played at the Cassville Golf Club Sept. 29, Nevada Lady Tiger golfers Hannah Householder, Michael Jones, Maddie Johnson, and Brooklynn Vincent are now zeroed in on Monday's sectional at the Marshfield Country Club.

The top 12 golfers at the sectional will move on to the state tournament. Additionally, the top two teams at Marshfield will automatically qualify for the state tournament.

Tigers golf coach Brian Leonard said that Marshfield's 18-hole par 70 course, will present challenges for his players. However, Leonard added that they should be somewhat familiar with the surroundings, having played in a tournament there on Sept. 2.

"We have played it a lot," Leonard said. "I think that helps with familiarity.

"We talked about it Wednesday at practice. We talked through the holes. We talked about where not to go. And they remembered almost exactly (where not to go). So they know the course pretty well.

"We didn't know Cassville and we got through it. I'm very confident that we will be OK."

Householder

Householder was named to the All-District team after she finished with a top 15 individual score at Cassville.

Householder, who qualified for state last year as a junior, is described as a "perfectionist" by Leonard.

"She will work until she gets the results that she wants," Leonard said. "That's kind of what I've seen with her (over four years).

Leonard said Householder displays a tremendous work ethic "when it comes to practicing and getting better at golf."

"She improved a lot between her freshman and sophomore years," Leonard said. "She made it to the sectional tournament her freshman year. But she did not qualify for state that year.

"So she was determined that she was going to make it to state. So then she started working on it, and made sure she got better.

"Her putting and short game have improved the most (over four years). She was pretty consistent off the tee box."

Leonard said he thinks Householder and company will need to fire at least a 95 or 96 to make the cut, and move on to state.

"I have a feeling it might be a little lower," he said. "You never know until you get there, of course.

"But I would say that Hannah probably has the best chance. Michael and Maddie are very capable of shooting that score.

"If they have one bad hole, they need to get over it and move on. If they're struggling on a hole, they need to find a way to finish the hole, without a big, big number."

Leonard said all four of his players have the capability to advance to state.

"My big thing is, what I'm telling them ---- you have to continue on," he said. "You have to concentrate on little chips. You've got to concentrate on some trouble shots.

"Marshfield has several trees, especially along the back side. If you get in the trees you've got to get yourself out of there. Just take your medicine. You don't want to play pin ball inside of those trees.

"Because of having one bad stroke, you're going to have maybe four or five."

Leonard said his players have to figure out a way to finish strong and stay positive.

"I think we can shoot a lot better at Marshfield then we did at Cassville," he said.

Leonard said he feels the competition this year is stronger than in past years.

"I think this year we have some better golfers in our district and our sectionals," he said. "I think Marshfield being a par 70 is going to be a factor as well."
