Cottey cross country holds dual meet

The Cottey College Comets cross country team held a 5K race, the Mari Anne Phillips Invitational, Friday afternoon at Frank E. Peters Municipal Golf Course.

The Longview Community College Lakers edged the Comets, 28-27.

Individual results

Cottey's Sarah Kurpjuweit coasted into a first place finish, with a time of 20:54. A Longview runner who later crossed the finish line, could be overheard marveling at Kurpjuweit's speed.

Also running for Cottey, Chase Burns checked in at 22:32, Ruth Chebet at 22:34, Marisa Swartz at 24:40, and Shelby Weitz rounded out the group at 26:19.

Next up for Cottey is the National Tournament in Lubbock, Texas, Nov. 8.
