Two suspects are in custody following a pursuit by Vernon and Bates County deputies.

A Bates County deputy attempted to stop a white Chevrolet S10 pickup truck for an expired license plate Oct. 25. The vehicle failed to yield to the deputy and turned onto State Route M. The vehicle continued south on State Route M into Vernon County.

The Vernon County Sheriff's Office was contacted and Vernon County deputies responded to the area. The pursuit was turned over to the Vernon County deputies once they caught up to Bates County deputies.

The pursuit continued to circle the northwest area of Vernon County. A short time after Vernon County took over the pursuit, the driver of the S10 pulled down a dead end road and both the passenger and driver exited the vehicle and began to flee on foot.

The driver, identified as Desmond Foster, 27, was apprehended a short distance from the vehicle by a Vernon County deputy. The passenger, Joel Baer, 18, was apprehended a short distance from the vehicle by a Bates County deputy.

Both parties were transported to the Vernon County Sheriff's Office. The driver had an outstanding Vernon County warrant and faces new charges in Bates County and Vernon County. The passenger faces charges of fleeing on foot from deputies.
