Nevada R-5 Schools will join more than 1,500 affiliates who offer Parents as Teachers services in celebrating National Parents as Teachers Day this month.

Parents As Teachers is celebrating 30 years of partnering with families with children prenatally through age five. The free program provides parent education and support, developmental screenings and links families to needed resources.

Nevada Parents As Teachers will host a literacy event, "Llama Llama Time to Play," at Parents As Teachers new location at 2015 N. West St., Wednesday, Nov. 19, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. All parents and families with young children are invited to attend.

Nevada Parent Educators Lynnette Foster, Crystal Burch, and Sherry Brown said they are excited to greet families.

"We'll read our favorite books from the popular series by Anna Dewdney. The series is a great way to address social-emotional milestones with your child," Foster said.

Children in attendance will receive a free "Llama Llama Red Pajama" storybook and all attendees are invited to wear red pajamas or simply something red.

Parents as Teachers will celebrate this National PAT Day by paying tribute to the parent educators and local organizations worldwide that offer parents as teachers services. These programs give parents support and information on their developing child so children will learn, grow and develop to reach their full potential.

"It's our honor to recognize the work of all Parents as Teachers affiliates," said Scott Hippert, president and CEO of Parents as Teachers.

"Through their dedication and efforts, Parents as Teachers services helped more than 350,000 children and their families last year, a huge step forward in preparing these children to succeed in school. We hope the National Parents as Teachers Day events taking place across the country will introduce even more families to the importance of early childhood education in achieving lifelong success."

Families who enroll in Nevada Parents As Teachers will be mailed the quarterly newsletter, may receive personal visits with Parent Educators, attend group meetings with other parents, receive periodic child screenings for health, vision, hearing and overall development, and referrals to a network of community services.
