Jewell Sharon Johnston

Jewell Sharon Johnston, 70, Nevada, Mo., passed from this life on Friday, Nov. 21, 2014, at Medicalodge, in Nevada, following a lengthy illness. Sharon was born on Jan. 7, 1944, in Nevada.

Sharon was raised in the Nevada area and graduated with the Nevada High School Class of 1961. She was employed at the Nevada State Hospital which she retired from after 20 years. Following her retirement she continued to work on the farm where she loved spending time caring for her animals. Sharon always had a passion and love of animals, especially horses.

Survivors include her daughter, Sara Brewer, Nevada; two sisters, Ronda Hensley, Louisville, Ky., and Janet McIntosh, Nevada; one brother, Jan Longstreth and his wife, Cathy, of Branson, Mo.; one granddaughter, Kara Jones and her husband, Ryan, of Paola, Kan.; and two great-grandsons, Renner and Sawyer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Gayle and Sarah Logan (Bush) Mitchell; and her grandson, Kaleb Brewer.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Antioch Cemetery, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association or the Vernon County Cancer Relief in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
