Shirley Ann White

Shirley Ann White, 66, of Nevada, Mo., passed from this life Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014, at her home. She was born Sept. 2, 1948, in Warrington, England, the daughter of Mary (Rhodes) Douglas and Gordon Rhodes. She graduated from Warrington High School, in England, and received her cosmetology license from Crums Beauty College, in Manhattan, Kan. She then went on to receive both her esthetician and instructors licensures. She taught many years at the Nevada School of Cosmetology, retiring from that position in 2006.

On Nov. 7, 1970, she was united in marriage to Larry E. White. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend who enjoyed spending time with members of her family and circle of friends. She also enjoyed going to the Downstream Casino. She was a longtime member of the American Legion where she had held the position of secretary.

Survivors include her son, Paul Rhodes, of Nevada; one brother, Gordon Rhodes, of Warrington, England; three sisters, Yvonne Jenkins and husband, David, of Nevada, Donna Wood and husband, Troy, of Walker, and Johanna Whytock and husband, Rob, of Warrington, England; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Of special mention is her dear friend, John Stonebraker, also of Nevada.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and also a brother, John Rhodes.

A memorial service for Shirley Ann White was scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 19, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, Mo., with the Rev. Mark Mitchell officiating. Private interment will follow at a later date.
