Letter to the Editor

Encouragement can be life-saving

Saturday, January 31, 2015

Dear Editor:

A month ago, a transgender teen named Leelah Alcorn committed suicide in Ohio because her parents and others around her could not accept the fact she did not want to be male and wanted to live her life as a girl.

While her death will, in the long run, help the cause of transgender people, and all other people who are different from others, it was totally uncalled for.

Now is the time to stop the hatred, ignorance, and bigotry which leads to tragedies like the one involving Leelah. People have to mature and realize not everyone thinks like them, feels like them, and looks like them.

It is us Christians who need to lead the way on this cause. The God we worship loves everyone. It is sad that His followers do not

Give some encouragement to someone today.

Sincerely

David Shipp
