Members of the Osage Prairie YMCA Tridents participated in the recent regional swimming championships hosted by the Monett Marlins swim team, in their eight-lane, 25 yard pool.

The championships featured 10 YMCA teams, (with some making drives of over three hours in order to participate), 260 swimmers, including four from Nevada. The Tridents are coached by Abel Hagan, and assistant coach Thomas Prewitt.

Originally, Nevada had 12 swimmers who planned on attending, but due to travel concern related to inclement weather, some team members did not make the trip.

Future Tridents meet

The Heartland-Area Championships are slated for March 13-15, and features eligible swimmers from three regions with top qualifying times.

If Tridents swimmers qualify, they will compete at the brand new $5.3 million, 29,000 square-foot facility at Chuck Fruit Aquatic Center in Edwardsville, Ill.

According to local resident Jason Leung, the Chuck Fruit Aquatic Center boasts the only Olympic-sized pool in southwestern Illinois.
