Accidental gunshot

In any war of anytime there have been "Accidental Gunshots" or the premature or unexpected discharge of a firearm. Often the results were fatal to a soldier or soldiers, but this was not the case with the incident recorded in the following letter from Captain A. M. Wilson who was the commanding officer of Company D of the 23rd Kansas Colored Volunteer Infantry Regiment in Cuba during the Spanish American War. The following letters were published in the Nov. 11 and 25 letters editions of the Fair Play that was an African American newspaper that was published in Fort Scott in 1898 and 1899.
