Robert James Tough

Robert James Tough, 87, of Metz, Mo., passed from this life Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at Nevada Nursing and Rehab, in Nevada. He was born Sept. 20, 1927, in Metz, the son of Roy Marvin and Ruth Helen (Walker) Tough. On Aug. 23, 1952, he was united in marriage to Freda Mae (Hoover) Tough and she survives of the home. Their union was blessed with two children, a son and a daughter.

Bob attended school then served our country with military service in the United States Army serving with Co. "B" 703D Military Police Battalion. Upon his return to this area he, along with his father and brother-in-law, Glenn Westerhold, owned and operated Tough's service station in Metz. The station was in existence until his retirement in 2000. Through the years he also raised cattle and drove a school bus for the Metz School District for 40 years.

In his spare time he enjoyed trapshooting and always had a great love of all dogs. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and treasured the time that he spent with each and every one of them.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Freda, include daughter, Rebecca Humble and husband, Chuck, of Rich Hill; sister, Marye Sweet of Metz; grandchildren, Andy Humble and his wife, Jessica, of Fort Scott, Kan., and Bethana Humble of Rich Hill; great-grandchildren, Alaynna Joann Humble and Evelynn Jean Humble; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Peggy Westerhold; and his beloved son, Steven Lynn Tough.

Funeral services for Robert James Tough are scheduled at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 4, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada. Interment will follow in the Balltown Cemetery near Horton, Mo.

Contributions may be made in Mr. Tough's name to the Parkinson's Foundation in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
