Nevada tennis team captures first at Fort Scott Invitational

The Nevada Tigers tennis team claimed first place at the Fort Scott Invitational, March 31.

The Tigers competed against Fort Scott, Pittsburg, and Coffeyville, winning eight of 12 matches.

Head-to-head matches

Nevada defeated Fort Scott in three out of four matches, Pittsburg in three out of four matches, and split four matches with Coffeyville.

Individual singles

At No. 1 singles, Skyler Laning finished in second-place, blanking Alex Combs of Fort Scott 8-0, while bouncing Caleb Dial of Pittsburg 8-1.

Lanning fell to Coffeyville's Chris Frazier 8-5.

At No. 2 singles, Thadius Mason grabbed second-place, shutting out Ben Conn of Coffeyville 8-0. Mason then defeated Ben Kangas of Pittsburg 8-2, then lost to Fort Scott's Raifen Cruse 8-3.

Doubles matches

At No. 1 doubles, the Nevada duo of Jordan Sheehy and Sheel Patel walked away with third- place, defeating the Fort Scott team of Quinton Parsons and Alex Gorman 8-6.

However, Sheehy and Patel fell to the Coffeyville tandem of Mitchell Reitz and Zach Holman, 8-1. They then lost to Will Jewett and Jared Wilde of Pittsburg by the same score.

At No. 2 doubles, Nevada's Nathan McCall and Brodrick Mason captured first place, defeating Fort Scott's Elijah Wright and Joe Adams, 8-4.

McCall and Mason next blitzed past Coffeyville's Josh Wilson and James Boyle, 8-1.

They ended the day by defeating Ivan Walter and Jamean Delp of Pittsburg, 8-5.
