Claude Everette Barnes, 90, Nevada, Mo., passed from this life on Thursday, April 9, 2015, at Moore-Few Care Center, in Nevada, following a brief illness. Claude was born on Aug. 4, 1924, in Irwin, Mo., to Virgil Barnes and Alice (Little) Barnes. He was united in marriage to Opal I. Jones in January of 1942 and to this union their two daughters were born. Opal preceded him in death in 1973. In November of 1979 Claude married Yvonne Midge Janes and she also preceded him in death in 2012.

Claude was raised in the Irwin area and later came to Nevada. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II in European Theater. Following his service years, Claude returned to Vernon County where he began farming. He also lived in California for 14 years returning to Nevada in 1967 where he continued to farm and raise Black Angus cattle until his retirement.

Survivors include his daughter, Sandy Price and her husband, Ron, Nevada; four grandchildren, Moria Randall and her husband, John, Nevada, Gale Thomas and her husband, Troy, Nevada, Mike Price, Nevada, and Lisa Martinie and her husband, Bill, Olathe, Kan.; five great-grandchildren, Carl Ricketts, Curtis Jamison, Zoe Hayes, Amy Hayes, and Indy Hayes; one great-great-grandchild, Mallory Ricketts; one sister, Josephine Winton, Fort Scott, Kan.; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Hornbeck, in 2011; one brother, Homer Barnes; and one sister, Mabel Uttinger.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, April 13, at Newton Burial Park, in Nevada, with the Rev. Terry Mosher officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada.

Contributions may be made in his memory to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
