Cheryl K. Sexton, 70, a resident of Sheldon, Mo., died early Monday, June 15, 2015, at Medicalodge of Fort Scott, Kan. She was born on Nov. 6, 1944, in El Dorado, Kan., the daughter of Ivan and Cleo Bird Burton. She married Ron Sexton on Aug. 5, 1962, in Independence, Kan. After raising two girls, she returned to school at Labette Community College, graduating with her teaching certificate. She taught public school for 20 years in Parsons, Kan., Bronaugh, Mo., and Sheldon, Mo. She was a very giving person who had a special place in her heart for school children. Cheryl was a talented decorator, landscaper and gardener who enjoyed her two dogs, both Jack Russell Terriers. She was a wonderful baker and cook with a specialty in candy making. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lamar, Mo.

Survivors include her husband, Ron, of the home; two daughters, Cherona Bicknell, Bucyrus, Kan., and Suzie Sexton, Frontenac, Kan.; two grandchildren, Savannah and Zach Bicknell; a great-granddaughter, Parker Bicknell; a cousin, Myrna White, Aurora, Mo.; and an aunt, Elaine Gardiner, Nevada, Mo. She was preceded in death by two uncles, Ross and Thayne Bird; and her parents.

There was cremation. The family will have a private burial at a later date in the Queen of the Holy Rosary Wea Cemetery, Bucyrus, Kan. Memorials are suggested to The Ellis Foundation and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
