Ada Vernita Yokley

Ada Vernita Yokley, 96, of Moundville, Mo., passed away June 27, 2015, at the Moore-Few Care Center, in Nevada. She was born Dec. 19, 1918, in Tescott, Kan., the daughter of Lawrence Anders and Mary Ellen (Dupes) Nelson. On July 2, 1950, she was united in marriage to Randall Leonard Yokley at the Nazarene Church, in Nevada, and he preceded her in death on March 9, 1993.

Ada grew up in the Tescott, Kan., area, graduating with the Tescott High School Class of 1938. At an early age, she worked for others, assisting in cooking, cleaning, and caregiving of any kind. Later she worked in Kansas at Sunflower Ordinance, then at both Boeing and Cessna as a welder. In 1950, she left Cessna to be at home with her children and be a homemaker. In 1972, Ada and Randall moved to the family farm in Moundville, Mo. To help make ends meet, Ada went to work at the state hospital in the dietary/food service division, where she retired in the mid-1980s.

Great passions in her life included a lifelong love of quilting which she began doing at the age of five, flowers and gardening. She also loved her church family at St. Paul Lutheran.

Survivors include her children, Glenn R. Yokley and Vi, of Milo, Leatrice Kay Snedden and William, of Sheldon, Juanita K. Brundridge and Kenny, of Moundville, and Ronald L. Yokley and Lori, also of Moundville; grandchildren, Amy Shaffer, Glenda Kay Piett, Dallas Partridge, Crystalyn Campos, Jennifer Stark, MarryEllen Stark, Cory Brundridge, Kyle Brundridge, Curtis Brundridge, Randall Yokley, Ryan Yokley, and Sarah Hancock; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Thyra Jolliff of Sun Lake, Ariz.; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Aside from her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lowell Nelson and David Nelson; and one sister, Anna Marie Stuckey.

Funeral services for Ada Vernita Yokley are scheduled at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 2, 2015, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Nevada. Interment will follow in the Deerfield Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 1, at Ferry Funeral Home.
