For more than 50 years, the Vernon County 4-H Council has held its annual 4-H chicken barbecue fundraiser to raise funds which help support the local 4-H program in Vernon County. 4-H members throughout the county have been selling meal tickets to the 52nd annual chicken barbecue fundraiser, with ticket sales ending Sept. 16.

The event is Saturday, Oct. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Vernon County fairgrounds. Providing vital financial support to the local 4-H program, the chicken barbecue has helped assist members in attending camps, state contests and educational scholarships. It has also helped to support other county activities and events such as the 4-H lock-in, awards and recognition, and Clover Kid Day.

In previous years, members and families have cooked more than 2,000 chicken barbecue meals for this one-night event.

This year, the chicken meal ticket includes a barbecued chicken, baked potato, baked beans or coleslaw, bread and a drink. Tickets may also be purchased at the door that evening, and purchasers will have a dine-in, carryout or drive-through option. Anyone with questions may call or stop in at the Vernon County Extension office, or phone 448-2560.
