Irma Sue Ashley

Irma Sue Ashley, 77, Nevada, Mo., passed from this life on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015, in Nevada. Irma was born July 14, 1938, in Nevada, Mo., to Harry Melvin and Cleo Diantha (Shirley) Smith. She was united in marriage on June 5, 1960, in Nevada, to Robert Glen Ashley and he preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 2015.

Irma grew up in Nevada, although she lived in Coffeyville, Kan., for a short time before moving back to Nevada. She then graduated from Nevada High School Class of 1956. For a time Irma worked at MO Public Service and the Village Market. She later worked at the Nevada State Hospital where she retired from in 1992 after 15 years of service. Irma loved cats and hummingbirds, but she especially loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed square dancing with the Bushwhacker Squares, playing cards, and family camping trips.

Survivors include her children, Randall Ashley, Nevada, Dianne Kimzey, Oak Grove, Mo., and Matthew Ashley, Nevada; grandchildren, Arren Ashley and Darcy Hawkins, Fort Scott, Kan., Zachary Kimzey, Oak Grove, Mo., and Dalton Kimzey, Oak Grove, Mo.; great grandchild, Morgyn Ashley, Fort Scott, Kan.; one brother, Roy Eldon Smith and his wife, Karren, Joplin, Mo.; and numerous nieces and cousins.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 19, at Newton Burial Park, in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada.
