L. Josephine (Gordon) Eaton

L. Josephine Eaton, 85, Nevada, Mo., departed this life on Monday, Sept. 14, 2015, at Barone Alzheimer's Care Center, in Nevada, following a brief illness. Josephine was born Oct. 11, 1929, in Lee's Summit, Mo., to Leslie Jacob and Ruth (Martin) Hartzell.

Josephine was raised in Lee's Summit and attended school there. She graduated from Lee's Summit High School with the Class of 1947. Josephine worked for a number of years for the IRS in Kansas City. She later worked as a legal secretary for the Boyer-Ratzlaff Law Firm in Lamar, Mo., until her retirement. Lydia spent most of her adult life living in Vernon County. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, crocheting and sewing, playing cards, canning and baking, and traveling. Lydia was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Survivors include three grandchildren, Ed Dipman and his wife, April, Elk City, Okla., Chere Gannaway and her husband, Dustin, Walker, Mo., and Chuck Dipman and his wife, Cindy, Nevada, Mo.; nine great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; her son --in-law, Wayne Dipman, Sheldon, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three husbands, Carl Kimzey in 1976, Glen Gordon in 1995, and Ira Eaton in 2007; one daughter, Kathe Dipman; and four sisters, Maybelle, Virginia, Dorothy, and Ruth Mary.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 18, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with Bill Gillette officiating. Interment will follow in Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon, Mo. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Barone Alzheimer's Care Center or NRMC Foundation in care of Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.
