Charges were filed Wednesday morning on a Schell City resident for assault on a law enforcement officer after a deputy attempted to serve an arrest warrant on Nebo Hill Road Sunday afternoon. Sheriff's Office officials have concluded the investigation of the assault and the name of the suspect has been identified as Patrick L. Paul, 18, of Schell City.

According to officials, the deputy had responded to a call on Nebo Hill Road in Vernon County about a subject with warrants. The deputy made contact with Paul but when the deputy attempted to take Paul into custody, Paul allegedly began attacking the deputy. The altercation continued until two citizens, seeing the deputy needed help, assisted with detaining Paul.

Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher said he was very grateful for the help his deputy received. "It's nice to know that members of the public are there to back up the deputies when they are in need and I would like to thank those citizens for their help."

Sheriff Mosher said Paul had multiple warrants, including aggravated stalking, and violation of order of protection.

Mosher said Paul has also now been charged with a felony of assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, as well as charges of resisting arrest, and property damage.

The bond on Paul's new charges has been set at $100,000 cash only. Paul is being held in the Vernon County Jail.
