The Class 2 Sarcoxie Bears swept the Bronaugh Lady Wildcats Thursday night in a non-conference volleyball match at Bronaugh.

The Lady Wildcats managed only one kill in the first game losing 25-9, and after making a few improvements in their play, lost 25-15 in game two.

In game one, senior Amanda Raper collected Bronaugh's only kill late in the game to make the score 24-8 in favor of the Bears.

The other eight points were unforced errors Sarcoxie virtually handed to Bronaugh between multi-point runs. The Bears had seven kills, two aces, and a block in game one.

"They played well," Bronaugh coach Daryl Dodson said of Sarcoxie. "We just weren't quite at their level. I was hoping (we would) do better. Let's give credit to them."

In game two, the Bears started with five straight points, but lost possession after an outside hitter committed a hitting error.

Lady Wildcats seniors Katey Rider and Lindsey Reedy hit consecutive kills. Two more points followed as Bears middle, Micha Edwards, committed a hitting error then allowed a softly tipped ball by Rider through her hands and to the floor.

Despite giving up the lead for two plays, Sarcoxie righted the ship with a 14-3 run. After Dodson called a time out with his team trailing 17-11, the Bears continued their assault on Bronaugh's gym floor.

Heidi Lopez slammed a kill, Chelsea Evans recorded an ace and Edwards slammed a ball off Raper's hands out of bounds for the final point.

The Lady Wildcats recorded five kills. The Bears hit four kills, four aces, and received 11 unearned points from Bronaugh.

"Our first passes were not up to the spot, not up to the spike line, so we could set. They were backwards," Dodson said. "So we were playing from behind from the get-go. One of those things you know, hopefully we can come back and be ready to go into districts."

The Lady Wildcats celebrated senior night after the game was finished.

Dodson said the seniors were paramount during the season -- his first as Bronaugh's volleyball coach.

"They helped me out," Dodson," said. "There were times I kind of leaned on them to figure out rotation and stuff like that.

"They stepped up at times and did a good job. They'll be successful the rest of their lives if they put out the kind of effort that they have for us this year."
