Helen Catherine Sidmore

Tuesday, December 1, 2015

Helen Catherine Sidmore, 87, of Pittsburg, Kan., passed from this life on Nov. 22, 2015, at Via Christi Hospital, in Pittsburg. She was born July 10, 1928, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Verne and Florence (Coughlin) DeLapp. She and her husband, Erwin, celebrated 60 years of married life just prior to his death.

Helen attended school in Iowa and that is where she and Erwin raised their family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker and did work for a short time in the kitchen of the Woodward State Hospital. Her children preferred that she be at home with them, so she decided her place was with them, although she did continue to volunteer her time at Woodward. She loved to read, crochet, and had a great appreciation of nature, flowers and outdoor surroundings. Her greatest times were spent with family and going on "picnics" when time allowed. Approximately 10 years ago she and Erwin moved to Missouri to be closer to family. They resided in Boonville until his death, then at that time Helen moved to be near her daughter, Sharon, who took excellent care of her.

Survivors include her children, Sharon Cline, of Bronaugh, and William Sidmore and wife, Wiwid, of Indonesia; 11 grandchildren; many great- and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Lou, of the state of Washington; and nieces, nephews, along with other extended family members. Aside from her husband, Helen was preceded in death by her parents; four siblings; and her beloved son, Lawrence.

A memorial service for Helen Catherine Sidmore will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 4, at the Sheldon Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jerod Lamb officiating. Interment will follow at a later date in Boonville, Mo.

Friends may call at Ferry Funeral Home until the day of the service.
