McKinley nears induction into NHS Wall of Fame

According to a Nevada High School press release, "Former Nevada High School Athletic Director Kevin McKinley will be inducted into the Nevada High School Athletic Wall of Fame, Friday, Dec. 11.

"The induction ceremony will be held between the girls and boys varsity basketball games against Sedalia Smith-Cotton High School. The girls contest will tip-off at 5:30 p.m.

"Kevin McKinley was born and raised in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1982. He was a member of the 1980 and 1982 district champion basketball teams. He earned first-team All-Big 13 Conference and Joplin Globe First-Team All-District honors his senior year. Kevin served as an assistant basketball and football coach for nine years and was a part of two conference basketball championships and four basketball district championships. He retired after 27 years, all at Nevada High School, while serving in the capacities of assistant principal, athletic director, classroom teacher and coach.

"Kevin was awarded The Nevada R-5 School District Teacher of the "Year in 2002, the Missouri State Teacher Association Southwest Educator of the Year Award in 2003, the Nevada Area Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year in 2003, and the Missouri Athletic Administrators Southwest District Athletic Director of the Year in 2008."
