By attending the upcoming play of the Community Council on the Performing Arts, Nevada residents can take a break from the cold weather and visit Mineola, a small, small town somewhere in the Deep South that time has forgotten.

The hilarious "Faith County" by Mark Landon Smith will be presented at the Fox Playhouse on the first two weekends in February. Set in the County Fairgrounds of Mineola, the two-act play opens with concern that the concession stands have been set up too close to the stockyards. The fun begins from there.

Directed by Richard Daut, and sponsored by the Metz Banking Company, the production will feature both familiar and new faces to the CCPA acting ensemble. Edi Gragg portrays Mildred Carson, the five-time winner of the Arts and Crafts Festival, and one who never lets logic enter into her thinking. Bobbie Lou Barber depicts the county know-it-all Faye McFaye, and Jane Ann Hancock takes the role of two characters, one the mayor's wife who has a tendency to drink too much and the other as the Bible-quoting minister's wife. Sam DeLaney plays Naomi, owner of the Bee-Luv-Lee Beauty Salon and local ceramics expert.

Appearing in her second CCPA production, Amanda Gilchrist plays Violet Farkle, apparently the only one in town with any sense. Also appearing for the second time, Robert Kalthof assumes the role of Bubba, who works at "Bubba's Gas and Go" and always looks as if he just crawled from under a car.

New to the CCPA stage, Michael Barber portrays Delbert Fink, a local pig-farmer who is the object of Faye's affection. Mike Serna is also making his debut as Luther, owner of "Luther's Lube and Tune" and Naomi's beau.

Together these down-home characters provide lots of silliness and belly laughs.

Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, "Faith County" will be performed at the Fox Playhouse beginning at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, Feb. 5 and 6 and Feb. 12 and 13. Sunday afternoon performances will begin at 2 p.m., Feb. 7 and Feb. 14.
