Mary Joyce Adams, 77, of Nevada, Mo., passed away Feb. 8, 2016, at the Barone Alzheimer's Care Center, in Nevada, Mo. She was born Sept. 12, 1938, the daughter of Lafayette and Mary Ellen (Story) Summers.

Joyce, as she was known, graduated from high school in Goodman, Mo., with the Class of 1956. She eventually settled in the Nevada area in the early 1970s, after living for a time in the Kansas City area where she worked in the newspaper business in both Raytown and Blue Springs. Shortly after making Nevada her home she began employment as secretary of the Nevada Housing Authority. Later, she moved into the position of executive director, managing that business for many years until her retirement in 2004.

As an area business woman, she was active in the local BPW, as well as having served as treasurer of MONAHRO, a business organization affiliated with the Housing Authority. When time allowed she enjoyed travel, family vacations, and family reunions -- where she was always counted on for her famous cakes and pies, and later liked working crossword puzzles and puzzle books. She especially loved the Christmas holiday and showering her grandchildren whom she adored with gifts beyond their greatest expectations.

She had a special spot in her heart for her many dogs through the years and took excellent care of all of them.

Survivors include her children, Steven R. Craker and his wife, Melinda, and Becky F. Holmes and husband, Tim, all of Nevada; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; along with other extended family members and friends. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Wanda Munroe.

Graveside services with interment for Mary Joyce Adams are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Moore Cemetery, in Nevada, with the Rev. Bill Platt officiating.

Contributions may be made in her memory to Hospice Compassus in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
