Selsor awarded Police Officer of the Year

Derek Selsor, a Nevada High graduate and former rural Nevada area resident, was awarded the 2016 Police Officer of the Year for the Olivette, Mo., Police Department.

He was recognized for his "courage, compassion, professionalism and dedication to duty."

The award was presented by the Creve Coeur-Olivette Chamber of Commerce Feb. 19. Olivette is a municipality located in St. Louis County, where he has been employed as a police officer since 2013.

Officer Selsor was previously awarded a special commendation in 2014 for his vital role in protecting citizen civil rights, while assigned to special duty assisting the Ferguson Police Department during the civil unrest that resulted from the Michael Brown riots in the summer months of 2014.

Derek is a 2005 graduate of Nevada High School and graduated from Missouri Southern State University in 2008.

He is the son of Rob and Angie Selsor of rural Nevada.
