Joseph Person, 88, of Nevada, Mo., passed away on Friday, March 25, 2016, at his home following a lengthy illness. Joseph was born on June 10, 1927, in Braidwood, Ill., to Jacob Person and Victoria Person. He married Izetta L. Sutcliffe on June 21, 1960, in Denver, Colo., and she survives of the home.

Joseph was raised in Braidwood and graduated from Braidwood High School Class of 1945. At the age of 18 he was drafted in to the U.S. Army Air Corps near the end of World War II. He went on to serve in the USAF for 21 years and was stationed in Korea during the Korean Conflict and also spent time in Berlin, Germany. Following the service, Joseph lived and worked in Denver, Colo., Joliet, Ill., and moved to a farm in Montevallo, Mo., in 1971. In 1991, he moved to Deerfield, Mo., and has resided in Nevada since 2003.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Izetta, include four children, Joseph Person and his wife, Shirley, Nevada, Dora Sons and her husband, Wayne, Nevada, Carol Hites, Mapleton, Kan., and Tony Person, Moundville; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Mudryk, Yuba City, Calif., and Cathy Person, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and one brother.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 28, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, March 27, at the funeral home.
