Charles LeRoy Peterman, 86, of Nevada, Mo., passed away in his sleep on March 30, 2016, at his home in Nevada.

He was born July 18, 1929, in Rich Hill, Mo., the son of Charles Roy and Josephine (Aurentz) Peterman. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served with the U.S. Army 40th Infantry Division. Charles married Beverly Glee Bear on Jan. 1, 1954, in Butler, Mo.

He worked at Nellie Don Clothing Factory, in Nevada, for more than 30 years until his retirement in 1994. Charles was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He joined the Knights of Columbus in 1966 and was a Fourth Degree Member. Offices he held included, Grand Knight in 1989-90 and District Deputy from 1980-85. Charles also served as a Scout Master for several years and was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sons; a brother, James Peterman, of Rich Hill; and a daughter-in-law, Jane Peterman, Gautier, Miss. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Beverly, Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada; four children, Mark Peterman, Gautier, Miss., Mary Ellen Scheib, Grandview, Mo., Nancy (Mark) Eilenberger, Aurora, Colo., and Glenn (Ann) Peterman, Overland Park, Kan.; brother, Louis Dungan, Nevada; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends.

A mass of celebration will be held Monday, April 4, at St Mary's Catholic Church with Father Matthew Benjamin officiating. The Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m., Monday, prior to the Mass. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Nevada. Family and friends will gather at the Ferry Funeral Home, Sunday, April 3, from 6 to 7 p.m., for a time of visitation.

Contributions may be made in his memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or Habitat for Humanity, in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
