Tigers track-and-field team competes at conference meet

The Nevada Tigers track-and-field team was in action at Friday's West Central Conference Tournament hosted by Sedalia Smith-Cotton High School.

The Nevada boys finished in seventh-place out of seven teams; the girls placed sixth; the JV boys placed third; while the Nevada JV girls captured first-place.

For Nevada, senior Chaden Brandt placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.41. Other NHS second-place finishes included Kane Hart in the pole vault (11'6") and Patience Lockhart in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:04.66.

Nevada third-place finishes included: Reagan Bradley in the 100-meter dash, clocking a time of 13.07; Carsten Warner in the long jump (17'); Amara Pippin in the 1600-meter-run with a time of 6:05.51; and the girls 4x100 meter relay team (Bradley, Warner, Mindy Hendren, and Sammy Gundy), registering a time of 53.21.

NHS fourth-place finishes included: Thomas Prewitt in the pole vault (11'6") and the girls 4x200 relay team (Bradley, Warner, Mindy Hendren, and Sammy Gundy) with a time of 1:53.34.

Junior varsity

In the junior varsity division, for the first-place NHS girls squad, Kaeth Zachary dominated, netting four first-place finishes. Zachary notched first-place in the 100, 200, and 400-meter dashes, with times of 13.47, 29.01, and 1:07.39 respectively. For good measure, Zachary added to her haul of first-place finishes by winning the triple jump (31').

'The future is bright," NHS assistant track-and-field coach Marsha Hooper said.

Several other JV Tigers placed first in various events, including: Reanna McGraw in the high jump (4'4"); Grant Phebus in the high jump (5'4"); and Trevor Olsen in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.48. McGraw and Phebus also notched second-place finishes in the long jump.

Courtney Leeker's time of 20.92 in the 100-meter hurdles was good for a second-place finish; Charles Morton finished with a time of 48.79 in the 300-meter hurdles to eanr a second-place finish; while Hailee Richter's 14.18 in the 100-meter dash netted her second-place.

Malaki Schmidt grabbed third-place in the pole vault (8'). Other NHS third-place finishes included: Morton in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 19.59; Charlene Petition in the long jump (14'3"); Richter in the 200-meter dash (30.39); and Leeker in the 300-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 1:05.06.

Lukas Kaemmerling placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles, fifth in the 300-meter hurdles, and sixth in the long jump (15'11"). Julia Daniel placed sixth in the discus (60').
