Cameron grand at Oklahoma State Golf Invitational
Nevada-native Emree Cameron, 8, picked up her 22nd career victory Sunday, winning the 3rd annual U.S. Kids Golf Oklahoma State Invitational held May 14-15 at Indian Springs Country Club in Broken Arrow.
During the first round of play, Cameron and the field battled cold, blustery conditions as well as tough pen placements. At the conclusion of Saturday's first-round, Cameron trailed the leader by two strokes. On Sunday, Cameron quickly erased the deficit. A par on the 100-yard par-3 second-hole put Cameron on top of the leader board as she never looked back. On the final hole, Cameron hit a 169-yard drive, leaving herself 36 yards to the pen. Using a sand wedge, she chipped within four-feet of the hole.
Needing to make the putt to break 40, Cameron was supremely confident in her abilities after having practiced similar putts 150 times the day before. Not only did she make the putt, but Cameron won in a landslide, running away with a 14-stroke victory. In her victory speech, Emree thanked her mom and dad, Coach Rick, all her supporters, and her great grandparents for making the trip. In addition, Cameron placed fifth at the recent Texas Open. Cameron will next compere in the U.S. Kids Texas State Invitational, slated for June in Dallas.
