Judge James Bickel, presiding judge of the 28th circuit, was officially notified on Friday that although he hits the mandatory retirement age of 70 on Sunday, he will remain at his post as presiding judge until a new judge is elected in November and begins serving on Jan. 1, 2017. This is a "special assignment of the Missouri Supreme Court." The assignment is signed by the the Missouri Supreme Court Chief Justice Patricia Breckinridge. Bickel and Breckinridge are former law partners. Johannes Brann/Daily Mail
