C. Waggoner Morerod

Waggoner Morerod, 66, of Kansas City, Kan., passed away Monday, Aug. 1, 2016. Waggoner was born Dec. 1, 1949, in Nevada, Mo., to Shurley B. and Etalka Morerod.

He graduated from Schell City High School in 1967, and then went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Southwest Baptist University. He then served with the United States Navy from 1971 to 1973, during the Vietnam War, where he received several medals. He received his Master's Degree in Adaptive Physical Education from The University of Kansas in 1982.

Mr. Morerod served as a Physical Education teacher for the Bonner Springs/Edwardsville School District from 1973 to 2003, where he retired after 30 years of service. Waggoner was involved with Prison Fellowship for many years directing choirs and leading Bible studies for prisoners. He also managed two half-way houses and ministered to ex-offenders.

In 1994, he became the pastor at Maple Hill Baptist Church where he faithfully served for the past 22 years.

Waggoner was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Harold Morerod, Russell Morerod, Reinhold Morerod, and sister Gwen Traynor. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Karen (Davis) Morerod, five children Brent (Sarah) McMeans, Robin (Tony) Nolan, Kyle McMeans, Isaac Morerod, Nathanael Morerod, eight grandchildren (Ella, Hayden, RiLynn, Reese, Easton, Hadley, Noah, Sutton), brother Boyd Morerod, sisters Judith Caudle and Otilla Fox, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Visitation services will be held 6 until 8 p.m., on Aug. 8, at Maple Hill Funeral Home, Kansas City, Kan. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Aug. 9 at Maple Hill Baptist Church, Kansas City, Kan., followed by graveside services at the Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kan.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Maple Hill Baptist Church or KCK Huggers, Inc. (Special Olympics).
