Bonnie Lee Burgess, 86, of Butler, Mo., died Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, at Research Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. She was born Dec. 15, 1929, to Jesse Nyle and Lida Mae Greer Scofield in Rich Hill, Mo.

Bonnie grew up in Rich Hill where she attended school. She was united in marriage to James "Buck" Burgess and to this union two children were born. Bonnie worked as a nurse at the Nevada State Hospital in Nevada, Mo. She was a member of the R.L.D.S. Church.

Bonnie was fun loving and ornery. She enjoyed canning, flower and vegetable gardening, knitting, quilting, crocheting and reading. She was an excellent seamstress and a gifted musician -- playing the piano and mandolin. Bonnie was always family oriented and loved being surrounded by her family.

Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Frances Jones of Richards, Mo.; five grandchildren, Cynthia Magsam of Nevada, Mo., Jesse Mack Cain of Raymore, Mo., Fawn Lee Cain of Lee's Summit, Mo., Niles Wesley Burgess of Laveen, Ariz., and Vernon Burgess of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James "Buck" Burgess Sr. in 1999; one son, James Richard Burgess Jr.; one brother, Donald Ray Scofield; and half-brother, Charles Smith.

Funeral services were Thursday, Sept. 8, at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Mo. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Mo. Contributions in lieu of flowers to Butler Public Library or House of Hound.
