NHS cross country set to compete at districts

Saturday, October 29, 2016

The Nevada Tigers boys and girls cross country teams are slated to compete today at the Missouri Class 3 District 7 meet hosted by Warrensburg High School.

NHS cross country has had a fantastic season, with numerous top finishes ---- team and individual. The Lady Tigers varsity cross country team will look to ride its tidal wave of momentum after winning the recent West Central Conference meet.

First-year NHS cross country coach Ryan Watts said he has high expectations in advance of the meet.

"I expect us to run as well as we have all year and to give it our very best," Watts said. "We are facing some great competition, and some of the best talent in the state. It will be very tough, but we are going to try and control the only thing we can, and that is how we run."

Watts continued, "We've discussed all week that we can't control how the other teams run, but we can control how we run, and hopefully our best effort is better than the competition."

In addition to the Lady Tigers varsity team capturing the West Central Conference title, Nevada's Calli Beshore collected an individual championship in the girls 5-kilometer event at the WCC meet.

"It was very exciting winning conference both as a team and for Calli individually," Watts said.

"This meet will be even tougher. The top talent in this race features runners who are returning state medal winners. But we're are going to go out and do the best we can and leave it all on the course. We know we are well prepared for tomorrow and are ready to give it all we have."
