University Extension plans January election

The University of Missouri Extension Council will have several fresh faces following a January election.

There are typically eight seats in each of the northern and southern districts. For the coming election, two seats are open due to resignations, two members have reached their term limits, one is running for reelection, and three seats in the northern district did not have candidates in the last election.

Susan Burns and Michelle Li resigned, Leslie Carrol-Bartlett and Frank Wilson have reached their term limit of four years, and Neil Gerster, an appointed member, is leaving the Vernon County Commission. Jennifer Byers is running for re-election in the southern district.

According to council member Janet Wray; Cheri Clark, Dani Fine and Lynn Meinershagen are planning to run for one of the open seats in the northern district, and Ginger Nance, Jennifer Byers, Joelle Mason, and Tabena Bower are planning runs for the southern district.

Three appointed seats are also open: city of Nevada, Farm Bureau, and Producers.

County program director Pat Miller said the election has to be announced 30 days beforehand.

In other business, the council has hired Hazel Wilson as part time help in the Extension Office in the Vernon County courthouse. Wilson will fill in for full time office support staff Judy Swank when Swank is not in the office, and will help with the workload surrounding the 4-H program.
