Sharon Kay Messick

Sharon Kay Messick, 71, Springfield, Mo., formerly of Nevada, passed away on Jan. 8, at Republic Nursing and Rehab in Republic, Mo., following an illness of several months. She was born Sept. 16, 1945, in Clinton, Mo., to Clifford F. and Margaret Irene (Fitzmorris) Brick. On April 24, 1980, she was united in marriage to Marion K. Messick in Butler, and he survives of the home.

Sharon was raised in Nevada and attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Nevada thru the eighth grade. She moved to Boonville with her family and graduated from St. Peter and Paul Catholic High School. Following high school, Sharon attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg for two years. Sharon worked at the Nevada Medical Clinic for a number of years. In 1997 she moved to the Springfield area where she continued to work at Mattax Neu Prater Eye Center until her retirement due to a disability. She attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nevada and later St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Springfield.

In addition to her husband, Marion, survivors include one brother, Gary Brick and his wife Sharon, Springfield; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her twin sister Karen Hanlin.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Father Matthew Benjamin officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
