NEVC bested by Montrose at Appleton City Invitational

In Thursday night high school hoops action, the third-seeded Northeast Vernon County Lady Knights were defeated by second-seeded Montrose 38-19 in the semifinals of the Appleton City Invitational. Montrsoe was paced by freshman forward Abby Vogel, who dropped in a game-high 20 points.

For NEVC (8-4 overall), Makinsey Conner finished with a team-high 14 points. Rounding out the Lady Knights scoring was Hannah Rogers with three points, and Brittney Trueblood with two.

Meanwhile, on the boys side of the Appleton City Invitational bracket, NEVC (2-9 overall) fell to Rich Hill 86-32 in the opening-round. NEVC followed with a 58-26 second-round loss to Miami. NEVC's Hayden Harp finished with team-high's of eight and six points respectively.

Late last week, inclement weather forced postponement of the tournament, as it is now scheduled to resume with Wednesday's third-place game, featuring the Lady Knights vs. fourth-seeded Hume.
