NMS teams open TCC tournament play

The Nevada Middle School seventh and eighth-grade basketball teams were in action Monday at their respective season ending Tri-County Conference basketball tournaments.

Entering as the tournament's top seed, the Tiger eighth-grade boys defeated host-school and No. 8 seed Neosho 35-10. Nevada (11-1) was paced by Logan Applegate's game-high 15 points while Logan McNeley chipped in 10.

Nevada next faces the winner of the No. 4 Carthage vs. No. 5 Joplin North matchup, with tip off slated for 5:30 p.m., today.

The seventh-grade Tigers, who entered as the No. 7 seed were tripped up by second-seeded Webb City as they fell 48-30 at Joplin North Middle School. Nevada's Kartman Highley and Evan Rea shared team-high honors with eight points apiece. Nevada concludes its season 2-10 overall.
