Charlene Wilson, 82, Nevada, passed from this life on Monday, April 24, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin following a lengthy illness. Charlene was born Sept. 22, 1934, in Horton, to Orby Lee and Mildred Irene (Grove) Shields. She married Loren Wilson on Oct. 7, 1950, in Appleton City, and he preceded her in death on July 15, 2002.

Charlene was raised in the Horton area and attended school in Horton and later Metz. Though primarily a farm wife, she also worked for Metz Headstart, was postmaster in Moundville for a short time, raised registered Angus Cattle, milked dairy cows, crop farmed and worked elections in addition to being a homemaker. Charlene attended Horton United Methodist Church. She was also a charter member of the Nevada Eagles Lodge. Charlene enjoyed traveling and her many trips included going to the northwest, Minnesota, Idaho, Hawaii, Canada and Disney World. But her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include five daughters, Kathy Rayburn, Nevada, Cindy Bean and her husband, Mark, Nevada, Deanna Rainey and Randy Call, Horton, Terry Bear, Lockhart, Texas, Janyce Hinkle and her husband, Kenny, Nevada; seven grandchildren, Kathi Jo Cain and her husband, Jerry, Angie Piper and her husband, Tom, Shannon Rayburn, Jason Bean and his wife, Jennifer, Tyson Rainey and his wife, Kacy, Courtney Baker and her husband, Blake, Trevor Hinkle and his wife, Emily; 12 great-grandchildren, Spencer Piper, Kieran Cain, Tucker Piper, Keilah Cain, Sawyer Piper, Elias Baker, Alexandra Rainey, Easton Baker, Kimrey Rayburn, Liam Rainey, Rhett Hinkle, Ean Baker; one great-great-grandchild, Grayson Piper; one sister, Patty Edmonds Vacca, Horton; one niece, Pam Wingate, Rich Hill. In addition to her husband Loren, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son-in-law, Joe Rayburn, and her great-granddaughter, Chanci Jo Cain.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Lawrence Cripps officiating. Interment will follow in Balltown Cemetery, Horton. Friends may call from now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home.

Memorial may be made in her memory to Horton United Methodist Church in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
