Lady Tigers place seventh in Carl Junction

The Nevada Lady Tiger golf team hit the links Tuesday in Carl Junction for the annual Lady Bulldog Invitational — with Nevada placing seventh at the eight-team event.

Winning the 18-hole invitational held at Briarbrook Country Club, was host Carl Junction with a team score of 376.

Finishing six strokes back, Pittsburg (Kan.) claimed the runner-spot with a team score of 382, while Webb City placed third, tallying a team total of 408.

For the Lady Tigers, junior Grace Palmer carded a 98, firing a 51 on the front-nine and a 47 on the back-nine, en route to an 11th-place individual finish.

“Grace had her best round of the season (and) first sub-100 round this season,” said Lady Tiger head coach Brian Leonard.

Meanwhile, NHS senior Mandy Crews placed 25th with a final score of 116 (56 front-nine, 60 back-nine); Lily Quitno, 26th (56 front-nine, 60 back-nine); Sammy Gundy, 122 (55 front nine, 67 back-nine); and Kaitlynn Vincent, 137 (69 front-nine, 68 back-nine).

The low individual score of the tournament was carded by Carl Junction’s Jenna Teeter, a 3-over-par 75. After a front-nine score of 41, Teeter was on fire on the back-nine, finishing with a 2-under-par 34.

Joplin’s Anna Iorio, one of the top golfers in the state, placed runner-up with a six-over par 78. Kylie Carnes of Carl Junction rounded out the top three, with an 8-over-par 80.

Up next

The 13th annual Nevada Lady Tiger Invitational, slated for Friday at Frank E. Peters Municipal Golf Course. Starting tee times for the 15-team event are set for 8:30 a.m.
