Donald Eugene Gilman

Donald Eugene Gilman, 65, Wichita, Kan., formerly of Nevada, passed away on, Sunday, Oct. 22, at St. Francis Harry Hines Hospice in Wichita. Don was born Sept. 19, 1952, in Ft. Scott to George Alfred and June Ellen (Pettibon) Gilman.

Don grew up in Denver, Colo., and later Deerfield. He graduated from Nevada High School with the Class of 1971. For a number of years, he attended and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Nevada. Don worked as a custodian at Nevada High School for many years until his retirement. For the past 11 years, he has lived in Wichita.

Survivors include one son, Elliott Gilman, Palestine, Texas; three brothers, David Gilman and his wife Martha, Nevada, Doug Gilman and Debbie, Nevada, Darryl Gilman and his wife Treva, Chanute, Kan.; two sisters, Judy Rocco and her husband Daniel, Nevada, Janie Duffey, Nevada; numerous nieces and nephews; his special Wichita family, LaDonna Glidewell, Lynna Glidewell, and others. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Connie Gilman.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with the Rev. Terry Mosher officiating. Interment will follow in Deerfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. on today at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Nevada High School Band or Nevada ROTC in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
